So, how is water baptism symbolic of this? Going in and coming out of water is symbolic of this scripture: The next verse tells us:

¹² Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead (Colossians 2: 12).

When we go down into the water, it signifies that we are buried with Him, and when we rise out of the water, it shows that we are rising up with Him.

This is what water baptism signifies. It is declaring our identification with Christ. We being buried with Him and raised up with Him. This is the circumcision made without hands that happened to us in the spirit.
