What Is Shaping Your Thinking?

Why? Because every person is a product of how they process things. This is why we must be careful about what shapes the content of our hearts, which will impact our thinking.

As thinking stems from the heart, we must be careful what we expose our hearts to.

So what does the scripture tell us?

Firstly, the scriptures tell us what to think about:

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things (Philippians 4:8)”.

These are the things we should be thinking about. These are the things that we should allow to shape the contents of our hearts.

There is a reason why the scriptures say, “Let the Word of Christ dwell in you richly ( Colossians 3:16). This will affect our thinking.

God’s Word must be allowed to shape our thinking. The Bible also says, “Be renewed in the spirit of your mind (Ephesians 4:23). The spirit of our minds will be renewed, that is, our souls, by spending time in the Word of God. When God’s word transforms our core system, our hearts, it will change the way we think.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Romans 12:2)”.

The scripture above tells us that our minds can cause us to miss God in some areas of our lives if our minds are not aligned.

Have you ever tried to share the gospel with someone, and they just didn’t want to hear? Or they come up with so many blind arguments? You can see that their mindset is wrong, which is resisting the truth. This is how vital right and godly thinking is.

These people have allowed lies to shape their thinking. This is why we need the power of God, and it is the Holy Spirit that brings conviction to people.

How else can we shape our thinking?

“Set your mind and keep focused habitually on the things above [the heavenly things], not on things that are on the earth [which have only temporal value] (Colossians 3:2 AMP)”.

We are to set our minds on things above, which will shape our thinking.

The scriptures should be shaping our thinking, and whatever truths the Holy Spirit is leading us to, or leading us to dwell on.

So what do we do with wrong thoughts?

The Scriptures tell us what to do: “ Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).

We are to cast those thoughts down and resist them in Jesus’ Name.

What a person allows to shape their thinking is so critical. What a person exposes their heart to is so important, as thinking stems from the heart.

God’s Word should shape our thinking.
