There was a speaker from the Association of Christian Writers (ACW) and a speaker from the Book Sellers Association, in addition to the main speaker for the day from Ingram Spark. I had never heard of the Booksellers Association until that day.
It was amazing to see the journey of IngramSpark as a company, as they have come a long way, helping many publishers and authors.
Here is one quote I took away: “The authors that do well have a connection with their readers”.
Another thing l took away is the need for change. “There will always be a need for change”.
Things change, society changes, people’s expectations change, and life changes, and if we are to reach the people, we have to change or upgrade our methods. This is necessary for any successful business.
Authors need to consider multi-format versions of their books to be available, e.g, audio, ebook, print, large print, etc.
If you have the opportunity to visit a book publisher or distributor, take it, as it will open up many different ways of getting things done.
It will help you appreciate the process of getting a print book from start to finish and eventually in the hands of your reader.
So much goes into the books we write to get the finished products to your readers.
This is the role that publishing and redistribution companies play in the work that all authors do.
