Notice the phrase “When he was come to years“, which indicates that he had this mindset all along and when he was able to put his foot down, he did.
Moses must have had a relationship with God before he was called. That is the only way he could have concluded that the temporary pleasures of sin are not worth it. Moses had a certain mindset from a much earlier point in life. We must remember that he fled Egypt when he was 40 years old and God called him at 80 years old.
Just imagine everyone trying to call him “son of Pharaoh s daughter,” and he refused? He must have had to put his foot down and refused to identify with all the temporal glamour.
Moses had a choice to make to walk with God, he had a good perspective about temporal pleasures.
“ Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt”. There is something called the reproach of Christ. This is what Moses choice and he knew that it was nothing compared to the treasures of Christ.
Look at the choices that Moses made from the above scripture, and now look at the reward:
- Moses saw God face to face (Exodus 33:11)
- Moses was called a friend of God (Exodus 33:11).
- Moses died at 120 years old with nothing wrong with him (Deuteronomy 34:7).
- Moses’ song is being sung in heaven now (Revelation 15:3-4).
- Moses name is written in the scriptures
- Moses wrote part of the bible
The reproach of Christ is definitely greater and more exceeding riches than anything this world can offer. What we suffer in this present temporary world is nothing compared to our eternal rewards and eternity.
Moses did not have the new birth experience as Christ had not come yet. Moses did not have Christ in him.
There is so much more for us than Moses.
The reproach of Christ outweighs anything (Matthew 5:12; Romans 8:18)”.
Just imagine all the glamour that Moses left to follow the Lord. Moses made the right decision.
Where is the glamour now?
Moses is still remembered now.
It pays to serve God.
Life is temporal.
The Scriptures tells us that ” Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution” (2 Timothy 3: 16″.
The Apostles had a good perspective about this and this what they had to say “And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for his name.(Acts 5:41)”. Jesus is worth it all.
The wise see beyond the now and follow the Lord passionately with all their heart.
Moses had a heart for God, he made right choices, and God used him mightily.
